The Canadian Certified Playground Inspector certification program is offered through the Canadian Playground Safety Institute (CPSI) and supported by the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA).

Costs:
Certification Part I (Theory) Course and Exam: $525 (Member); $550 (Non-Member)

Certification Part II (Practical) Course and Exam: $650 (Member); $675 (Non-Member)

Theory Learning Outcomes:

• Understand the CAN/CSA Z614 Standards
• Identify hazards and equipment not in compliance with CSA Standards
• Understand inspection requirements and process
• Manage risk and reduce liability

Practical Learning Outcomes:

• Take into consideration factors that affect playground safety beyond the CSA Standards
• Evaluate existing play structures for compliance with the CSA standards
• Complete a written inspection report
• Manage risk and reduce liability
• Provide recommendations for upgrading equipment to comply with the CSA standards, with the understanding of safety and cost implications
• Identify and implement an effective inspection and maintenance program

What You Need to Know:

• The classroom courses include 1 ½ days of training and an exam. The Theory course is also available online
• Those who complete both the CPSI Theory and CPSI Practical courses, and who receive a passing grade on both exams, achieve the industry-recognized status of Canadian Certified Playground Inspector. The Inspector status is valid for 3 years and can be renewed by completing a recertification exam, either online or in the classroom.
• The Theory course is a prerequisite for the Practical course and must have been taken within the preceding 24 months. Successful completion of both courses within 24 months is required to achieve the status of a Canadian Certified Playground Instructor.
