Second Class Refrigeration Arena Course
The Second Class Refrigeration Course is a six-month program, consisting of several in-class sessions at NSCC Akerley Campus and online training. The course is offered through a partnership with the Recreation Facility Association of Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency (NSAA), Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), and the Department of Labour and Advanced Education. It has been designed to help facilities train their staff to obtain a Second Class Refrigeration ticket, enabling them to continue meeting the Department of Labour and Advanced Education’s codes and regulations.

Cost:
Members: $500+tax
Non-Members: $750+tax
Who Should Attend:
Anyone who wants to be certified to operate:
- Refrigeration compressors
- Air or other gas compressors
Schedule:
The Second-Class Refrigeration course runs annually from January to June and includes:
- Two days of in-class, instructor-led orientation
- Online training
- Instructor-led review days once a month
- Review week
- Final Exam
What You Need to Know:
- Applicants must have a minimum of grade 12 or their GED to register for the course
- Applicants must also have 2000 hours in a licensed Refrigeration Plant before certification is awarded
- All mandatory in-class sessions must be attended and the online requirements passed before being eligible to write the final exam administered by the Department of Labour and Advanced Education (Technical Safety Division)
- Placements are determined through an assessment process after applications are reviewed
- The Second Class Refrigeration Course runs from January to June every year. Registration begins in August of the year prior
Cancellation Policy:
If a withdrawal is made up to 1 week before the start of the course, a 30% administrative fee will be deducted. After that, no refund will be issued. However, you can substitute another person to attend at no extra charge. If the course is cancelled for any reason, we will contact the registrants and provide a full refund. No-shows will be billed the full amount.
