CALL TO ACTION TOWN HALL: NS Recreation Facilities Awareness and Update Session

May 26th, 2021 @ 1:00pm

If you are a facility manager, operator or owner, a facility user or stakeholder, a PSO or a PRO (Provincial Sport and Recreation Organization) that uses facilities to deliver your programs or a government decision maker, we strongly encourage you to join us for this important Town Hall on May 26th @ 1:00pm (log in details below) We are all connected when it comes to providing space and opportunities for Sport and Recreation in our province.

A recreation facility in your back yard is in crisis. A recreation facility in your neighborhood may not open this season. A recreation facility where you watch your grandkids play hockey or you take your kids to swimming lessons. A recreation facility where you teach figure skating lessons or participate in a curling league. A community hall that can no longer keep it’s doors open. Like other sectors, our facilities are suffering.

RFANS has seen firsthand the impacts that COVID-19 has had on the recreation and sports sector. Through our leadership role, and an abundance of data collected from Nova Scotia facilities, we are deeply concerned for the sustainability of many of our recreation facilities throughout the province, some whose re-opening for the 2021-2022 season is questionable or who may be at risk of closure.

The purpose of this Town Hall is to provide an update on what RFANS has been doing to assist, discuss next steps, and understand the challenges our facilities face moving forward. We will hear from some of our operators about those challenges generated by closures, restrictions and loss of revenue.

RFANS has continued to provide COVID related support, training, education, and resources to facilities in the province while helping them navigate these restrictions and financial implications of the pandemic. We are working to assist facilities that are experiencing financial losses but in order to provide government with demonstrated need for assistance, they need to hear from you!

We will provide time for Q & A. Feel free to forward any questions or comments ahead.  Will see you on the 26th!
